Richard Cunningham - Manager Places of Change Programme HCA
Putting a roof over someone’s head is a useful thing to do, but for individuals who have experienced homelessness, rooflessness can be only one of the symptoms of a bigger set of problems that encompass isolation and loneliness, long term worklessness and low self esteem.
Places of Change is about more than a place to live, it’s about quality buildings that provide a welcome, warmth and security, it’s about well trained and supportive staff and innovative, meaningful and ‘fun’ activity that make you feel better about yourself and gives a sense of purpose. It’s about getting the confidence to know and to show that you’ve got something to offer and that you can take control of your life and future.
With the biggest garden at Chelsea we’re hoping to showcase the achievements of homeless people and dispel some of those myths that relegate people to the margins. So you’ll see skills, ambition, enterprise and wicker coffins! What we also hope you’ll see is an untapped resource of talent and opportunity.
Our Chelsea garden is Places of Change in action. If you look it’s all there and that’s why we are.
